U.S. SMALL BUSINESSES PLAN MORE GENEROUS HOLIDAY SEASON FOR THEIR EMPLOYEES IN 2005

Holiday parties and bonuses on the rise, as small businesses express confidence in strong end to 2005.

Waltham, MA. - November 29, 2005

There will be more holiday cheer to go around this year, say small businesses. According to over 1,200 U.S. small businesses responding to Constant Contact's 2005 Holiday Small Business Outlook* survey, 55 percent plan to have a holiday party for their business or office this year. This marks a significant increase over last year, as only 45 percent of respondents said they held a holiday party in 2004. Constant Contact (www.constantcontact.com) is the leading email marketing service for small businesses, associations, and nonprofits.

The survey also queried small businesses about their plans for doling out holiday bonuses. With 60 percent of small businesses anticipating a strong holiday sales season, 37 percent of the respondents plan to give out bonuses this year. While this represents a minority of those surveyed, it shows an increase over last year, as 34 percent of the surveyed small businesses stated that they gave out holiday bonuses last year.

"The fact that more small businesses this year are planning to hold office parties and give holiday bonuses is a great sign for the health of the small business market," said Gail Goodman, CEO of Constant Contact. "The optimism displayed in our survey is evidence of the strong year many small businesses experienced in 2005, which has bolstered their confidence in sales prospects for the coming year."
