CONSTANT CONTACT ANNOUNCES APPCONNECT TO EXTEND EMAIL MARKETING ACCESS TO SMALL BUSINESS APPLICATION PROVIDERS
Email Marketing Service Trusted by More than 250,000 Customers Announces New Resources to Save Small Businesses Time and Effort
Waltham, Mass. - April 02, 2009
Constant Contact®, Inc. (NASDAQ: CTCT), a leading provider of email marketing and online surveys for small organizations, today announced the availability of Constant Contact AppConnect, a program designed to speed up and simplify the integration of Constant Contact's email marketing products with small business software applications. The first offering in the program includes a series of application programming interfaces (APIs) that use RESTful Web Services. These Constant Contact APIs, as well as applications gadgets and widgets built by Constant Contact's growing developer community, will provide small businesses with a more holistic view of their contact interactions.
Constant Contact AppConnect, the integration destination for developers, provides the resources developers need to integrate their applications with Constant Contact's leading email marketing and online survey tools. Small businesses and organizations using applications that are integrated with Constant Contact benefit from streamlined business processes, access to valuable marketing information across applications, and automated data updates across applications, thereby minimizing data collection errors. In addition, through its existing base of more than 250,000 customers, Constant Contact provides an exciting opportunity for developers to offer their work to a diverse and growing small business audience. Interested developers can access Constant Contact AppConnect at http://developer.constantcontact.com.
"We have seen tremendous interest from software vendors and developers who have great ideas for integrating email marketing with the applications they offer, as well as appreciation from our customers who enjoy the speed and ease-of-use our APIs bring to their businesses," said Len Bruskiewitz, senior director, partner programs, Constant Contact. "With the introduction of Constant Contact AppConnect, we are making it even easier to connect Constant Contact with other applications, broadening opportunities for developers and helping to make our customers' businesses easier to manage. The creativity we are seeing from the developer community is wonderful and we look forward to learning about additional ways we can make this set of APIs even more useful."
Based on the widely-adopted RESTful API architecture, and utilizing the OAuth open protocol for authorization, Constant Contact's Web Services APIs allow developers to access email campaign results and manage contacts and lists without concern for technology compatibility. Capabilities designed into the Web Services API include:
- creating new contacts and changing contact data;
- developing or modifying contact lists;
- checking campaign results, including which contacts opened an email and clicked on specific links;
- accessing opt-out and unsubscribe lists; and
- creating and logging into Constant Contact user accounts.
ACT! Integration Now Available
In addition, today, Constant Contact released a new plug-in for ACT!® by Sage Software, a leading contact and customer management application for individuals and small businesses. This plug-in enables small organizations to transfer existing customer contact lists directly from ACT! into Constant Contact to instantly build a segmented list. This saves small businesses time when creating their permission-based contact lists and enhances accuracy when building targeted campaigns. The plug-in is available from within any Constant Contact user account.
Several developers have already taken advantage of the Constant Contact AppConnect API, including:
Integrated Customer Information Between Applications Means More Targeted Segmentation: SofterWare, Inc.
"Constant Contact's Web Services make it easy for our customers to take their segmented customer information from our system, bring it into Constant Contact to send a targeted email campaign, and manage the results of that campaign," said Douglas Schoenberg, SofterWare, Inc. cofounder and chief executive officer. "As we've developed a more advanced understanding of our customers' needs for email marketing communications, Constant Contact has continued to invest in the underlying technologies to facilitate higher levels of integration. That's very important to us."
Seamless Open Source Platform Integration: MichiganMedia.net
"Our company provides clients with web hosting, development, and support services based on a Joomla open source content management system. Based on our customers' needs, we sought an email marketing solution to integrate into the system," said Gary Brooks, chief executive officer, MichiganMedia.net. "Constant Contact was a natural choice. The ability to seamlessly handle email sign ups, newsletter creation, distribution, and list management within the Joomla system has been a great competitive differentiator for us."
