Get More Out of Your Events with Online Surveys
Posted on Fri, 11/21/2008 - 17:17 by Caroline Shahar
Effective events take time, they take money. Wouldn’t it be nice to know in advance that your investment will really pay off? Online surveys can help you get the seats filled, have satisfied attendees, and give you a bigger return on your investment. Here are three simple event surveys to help you achieve this:
1. Send a Pre-event Survey to find out what will really drive registration and attendance before you put time and money into it. Ask your audience what topics interest them. Often it will be a topic that you didn’t think about or one that is much more popular than you realized. Is there a particular speaker of interest? A particular venue that people prefer? What day and time is going to be the best for the majority of your audience? What food or beverages do registrants like? You can find out all of these things ahead of time with these pre-event survey questions.
2. Send an RSVP Survey to make managing registration easy. You can keep a count of who has registered and who hasn’t. From the results, at least with our survey tool, you can follow up with just those that registered to keep them engaged. Give your registrants updates, directions, or get volunteers by asking if they are interested in helping out at the event. You can also follow up with just those that have not yet registered to increase registration. Remind non-registrants that the deadline is soon approaching.
3. Send attendees a Post-event Survey to find out what worked and what really didn’t work so well. The lessons you get from the results of this survey will make your future events even better. Another great use for this survey is to measure the return on your investment by asking attendees if they took or plan to take the action you wanted them to. Here are good post-event survey questions to ask.
I find event surveys to be extremely helpful in gathering feedback about the webinars I host. After each webinar attendees are brought to a window with a post-event survey. Typically about 25% of attendees complete the survey, and their feedback is extremely helpful. For each webinar I know how satisfied attendees are, what worked well and what areas to improve. Our attendee satisfaction level continuously averages around 90%, which is largely due to implementing the lessons identified in our post-event survey results.
Have you used surveys for your events? If so, how did it go? If not, need help with something? As always, I welcome your feedback and questions. Just click the comment link below. Until next time, happy growing!
