Offering Coupons
I do offer a coupon in every mailing I send out. It is pretty much the reason for my email newsletters, to get customers back in the store sooner then they might otherwise have returned. I do find that there is a difficulty offering coupons in emails. Sometimes people have a printer problem or are using a laptop not connected to a printer and sometimes they just have trouble figuring out how to print the coupon (I include instructions for printing out just the coupon - ie: highlight and choose "print selection" from the print dialog) or even the email itself. To solve this issue I have qualified the offer with the option to just mention they newsletter and give us their email at the time of redemption so we can record it on the receipt (for tracking). This seems to work much better, people know they don't have to print it, clip it and remember to bring it with them but they can still get the benefit.
