Are you missing the boat with online surveys?

Hello! I'm Caroline Shahar from Constant Contact. I'm new to this blog, but if you've taken one of our educational webinars, you may have already heard from me (read my bio to learn more). Anyone who knows me knows I'm passionate about helping small businesses and nonprofits succeed, and I hope you find my posts here helpful. To that end, please let me know what you like and don't like. Any and all feedback is helpful. And that brings me to my first post...
Something to catch on to before your competitors do is online surveys. Actively getting feedback from your customers or members can give you a huge advantage over your competition.
I’m sure those of you who have done an online survey have experienced the “aw” factor that comes with the results you get back. It’s like a map to your organization’s long-term success. Or like someone telling you the numbers for the winning lottery ticket while you still have time to buy a ticket. And yet this is a tool that I see small businesses and nonprofits missing the boat on.
As a small business or nonprofit, you may regularly find yourself asking, “What more can I do to stay ahead of the competition and grow my organization?” Finding something that is easy and inexpensive is ideal, right?
If you haven’t looked lately, you’ll find that online surveys don’t take as much effort or cost as you may think. If you don’t know what types of surveys to send or what questions to ask, there is a new resource now available for you – the Why Send Online Surveys recording which also includes helpful handouts. (By the way, if you want to match a voice to this blogger, the one you will hear on the recording is mine).
Regularly getting feedback from your audience will help you make sure that you aren’t left on the dock as your customers or members sail away to the competitor that will listen to their wants and needs.
I want to hear from you! I’ll be writing more posts about how to use online surveys to grow your business, and it would be great to get your input. What can I help you with? Have you done one yet? If so, what was your experience? What worked? What didn’t work? Please share by commenting on this post, and I’ll be glad to dive in with the advice you’re looking for in upcoming posts.

Posted on Tue, 10/21/2008 - 13:28 by Caroline ShaharThanks for the comment and yes I can help! Your request for questions to ask in a survey is a very common one. Often businesses know the value of surveying, but they just don’t know what to ask. That’s why the focus for most of my current blog posts and many of my future posts is offering key survey questions. The results you will get from the sample survey questions currently available in this blog will be instrumental in you becoming less vulnerable to your competition. See this post for some good customer satisfaction questions, and this post for the one question to definitely make sure is in your survey. Watch for my post next week, which will provide several more sample survey questions.
