Q. What is Cares for Kids?
A. Cares for Kids is Constant Contact’s way of helping small businesses help their smallest neighbors. With Cares for Kids, Constant Contact empowers our customers to give back and help strengthen their local communities. All paying customers in good standing are eligible to sponsor a local community organization that is 100% focused on programs for children with a free* Constant Contact account. These accounts have full access to Constant Contact’s entire suite of small business tools and services.
Q. What types of organizations are eligible for a free Cares for Kids account?
A. The Cares for Kids program supports certified 501(c)(3) nonprofits that are primarily youth-oriented and have a revenue cap of $250,000 per fiscal year.
Q. What types of organizations are NOT eligible for a free account?
A. Cares for Kids does not assist individuals or individual families; political or social organizations or causes; fraternities, sororities or alumni organizations; churches, faith-based, or religious organizations; schools or PTAs; or medical organizations or programs. For these organizations, and those working with groups other than children, we offer a generous discount program for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt entities.
Q. How much does it cost a paying Constant Contact customer to sponsor an account for a nonprofit organization?
A. Nothing at all. Constant Contact donates the account on behalf of the sponsor/customer to the recipient organization—at no cost to either. Because the program is meant to help customers build better ties with their communities, we do ask the sponsor to help the recipient set up and start using their Constant Contact account.
Q. How long will the sponsored account be free?
A. For as long as the sponsor remains a paying Constant Contact customer in good standing.
Q. Who should fill out the application?
A. The Constant Contact paying customer completes the application with sponsored organization and submits the application.
Q. How many accounts can a Constant Contact customer sponsor?
A. Each customer can sponsor only one organization.
Q. Can the sponsored organization use Constant Contact’s free customer support?
A. Yes. However, it’s our hope that customers who sponsor organizations for Cares for Kids will stay involved with each organization to provide assistance along the way.
Q. How long does it take to get approval for the program?
A. Typically 1 week. We will get in touch with you if we need any more information. If your sponsorship is approved, we will send you and the nonprofit a welcome email that tells them how to access their account.

Q. If a Constant Contact customer sponsors my nonprofit organization, can I then sponsor another nonprofit?
A. No, sorry. Only paying customers are eligible to sponsor an organization.
Q. Do I have to sponsor an organization in my local area? Can I sponsor one elsewhere instead?
A. While we established Cares for Kids to encourage customers to help their local communities, many small businesses have contacts around the country. As long as the sponsoring customer can dedicate the necessary time and expertise to help the qualifying organization get started with Constant Contact, then we’ll consider the application.
Q. Do I have to be in the United States to be either a sponsor or a sponsored organization?
A. No, though the sponsored organization needs to have federal government status as a nonprofit, either through a United States 501(c)(3) tax exemption certificate or equivalent documentation from a foreign government. Because of the different rules from nation to nation of what constitutes a tax-exempt nonprofit, we consider such applications on a case-by-case basis.
Q. What happens to the sponsored account if I can no longer be a Constant Contact customer?
A. The sponsored account becomes deactivated when you close your paid account. Just like your paying account, we will not erase it. Essentially, the organization’s campaigns, images and mailing list remain frozen until it either finds another sponsor and reapplies to Cares for Kids, or decides to become a paying customer at the discounted nonprofit rate.
Q. I’m a nonprofit that helps kids, but I need a sponsor. What can I do?
A. You can find a local business in your area who is a Constant Contact customer and ask to be sponsored. That may be as easy as looking in your own email inbox and seeing which businesses send you email newsletters powered by Constant Contact!
Q. I work for a PTA, and 100% of our work raises money for children. Do we qualify for Cares for Kids?
A. No, unfortunately — the focus of Cares for Kids is children’s organizations that work hands-on with children, not in fundraising or other (admirable) pursuits to help kids. But, the good news is that your group would most likely qualify for our nonprofit discount.
Q. Do I have to be in the United States to be a sponsored organization?
A. No. However, we do still require that the sponsored organization has federal government status as a nonprofit, either through a United States 501(c)(3) tax exemption certificate or equivalent documentation from a foreign government. Because rules differ from nation to nation of what constitutes a tax-exempt nonprofit, we consider such applications on a case-by-case basis.
Q. My organization did not meet the Cares for Kids eligibility requirements. What are my options?
A. If you have 501(c)(3) tax-exempt or equivalent status, you are still eligible for our nonprofit discount program which provides greatly reduced rates when you pre-pay for 6 or 12 months. Q. I am a paying Constant Contact customer, and I want to be sponsored into the Cares for Kids program. Can I use my existing paid account as my free account?
A. Definitely! When your sponsor fills out the program application, please have them give us your existing username so that we don’t create a second account for you.
Q. Do I get a refund if I was a paying Constant Contact customer, and then I became sponsored for Cares for Kids?
A. We do not provide retroactive refunds. If you prepaid your account, we will refund the unused remaining balance going forward from the date your account was converted to a free one.
Q. What if my mailing lists exceed 10,000 email addresses?
A. For organizations sponsored through Cares for Kids, mailing to the first 10,000 contacts is free. If your list goes over 10,000 contacts, you bump up to the next tier of 10,000-25,000 contacts. Constant Contact will cover the price of the 10,000 contacts ($75) and you will be responsible for difference ($75). But as a nonprofit organization, you’d be eligible for our nonprofit, pre-paid discount program, too.
Q. As a sponsored organization, can I use Constant Contact’s free customer support?
A. Yes. However, we’d encourage your sponsor to stay involved with your organization to provide assistance.
Q. If I want to separate my free Cares for Kids account into more than one, would these additional accounts be free too?
A. No. Each sponsored organization is allowed one free account. If you wanted to divide it into multiple accounts, you would be charged for the additional accounts under our standard pricing and nonprofit pre-paid discount program.
Q. My sponsor is no longer a Constant Contact customer. What happens to my account?
A. Your sponsored account becomes deactivated. We do not erase it. Your campaigns, images and mailing list will remain frozen until you either find another sponsor and reapply to Cares for Kids, or become a paying customer at the discounted nonprofit rate.
Q. Why do I have to reapply if my account is deactivated? Does this mean Constant Contact could turn me down?
A. If you were a Cares for Kids-sponsored organization in good standing, the reapplication process is a formality. We need it so that we can associate your account with your new sponsor’s information.
Q. Is there a fee to reopen a deactivated account?
A. Not for free accounts sponsored through Cares for Kids. Typically, we do charge a reinstatement fee for paying customers.
Q. How do I join?

Q. How does the National Program differ from the Customer Program?
A. The two programs work exactly the same. However, the National Program does not require sponsorship from a Constant Contact customer.
Q. If I am part of the National Program, is my free account also limited to 10,000 contacts? What if my mailing list exceeds this?
A. If your mailing list is larger than 10,000 names, you would only pay for the number of contacts over that limit. And as a nonprofit, you would be eligible for pricing under the pre-paid discount program.
*To receive a free account, the nominated organization must meet the program requirements and adhere to Constant Contact’s standard terms and conditions. The free account is limited to 10,000 email addresses and will remain free for as long as the sponsor is a customer of Constant Contact in good standing.
