Getting Started
What do I have to do to set up my Constant Contact Account?
Getting started is fast and easy. Sign up for a Free 60-Day Trial in minutes*. There is no risk or obligation and no credit card is required. Once you log into your account, simply:
- Set up initial account information (email signature, company name, logo, etc)
- Import your permission-based email addresses, if you have existing contacts
- Set up a Visitor sign-up box to collect email addresses from your web site
- Create and send a test campaign - our Getting Started box and helpful resources offer step-by-step help
* During your free 60-day Survey trial, you are limited to viewing 100 survey responses. Your surveys remain active and all the responses received over the trial limit of 100 are saved and available when you purchase survey.
Is there training available?
Yes. We are always here to help. Starting the day you sign up for a free trial and going forward, you have free access to live personal coaching, product support, online resources—including our live product tour—and recorded online survey tutorials that you can take at your leisure. Template Usage
What Survey templates are available?
You can choose from more than 60 online survey templates in five categories: customer satisfaction, market research, new product development, nonprofit and website feedback. Each survey template includes expertly-written questions.
Can I edit the survey templates?
Yes. Our online survey templates come with pre-written questions that you can easily modify. You can add or delete questions, change the order of questions with one-click drag and drop, or edit the text or designate specific questions as required. You can also insert page breaks and change the color (background, and questions & answer text).
Can I create my own survey without a template?
Yes. You have the option to create an online survey from scratch using our simple step-by-step wizard. Our free online resources provide helpful tips for creating your own survey from scratch.
Can I add my logo to my survey?
Yes. You have the option to insert your logo on the online survey greeting or closing page.
Distribution
How do I activate my online survey so my contacts can take it?
After you have tested your survey—taken it to see it the way your respondents will see it—you will need to change the survey status from "Draft" to "Live" so that the survey can be taken.
How can I distribute my survey to my existing contacts?
Once your online survey is in "Live" status, you can distribute your survey to your existing permission-based contacts through a personalized email invitation. The wizard will take you through the steps of identifying which contacts you want to receive the invitation. You also have the option of posting the survey link on your website for online visitors to take your survey.
How can I distribute my survey if I do not yet have a contact list?
You can place a link on your website or place a computer kiosk at a tradeshow or in your office/store so that visitors can take the Survey. You can also place the Visitor sign-up box on your website to collect permission-based email addresses. You can then follow-up with an online survey email invitation.

How do I manage the responses I get from my online survey?
Constant Contact automatically collects and presents results instantly with easy-to-read graphical displays, and data that can be refreshed and updated, around the clock. You have access to overall view or drill down view:

Quickly evaluate survey results at-a-glance with friendly graphs. You can hide or view the details and review text answers with one click. You can also drill down to view respondents by answer choice, and save them to a list. - Individual results
You can also view by respondent—leading to valuable insight for one-on-one follow-up communication. You can search for and analyze a single respondent. You can view their contact details, including name and address, and learn how they answered all questions. - Invitation results
Instantly measure the performance of your survey email invitations. You can use the at-a-glance view of all invitations sent for each survey. You can also see the date sent, number sent, opens, clicks, and more.
How do I export my results?
With just one click, you can export your online survey results in CSV format to look for key trends over time.
Filtering
What is filtering?
Filtering enables you to group and segment respondents, based on how they answer select survey questions. You determine which question and answer choices you want to filter, and Survey displays the results with easy-to-read graphs. With one click, you can drill down to identify who fits your selected criteria. Then, save them to a new list or an existing list for targeted follow-up.
Why would I want to use filtering?
You'll gain the marketing intelligence you need to better understand your audience, make smart decisions, and target your message for your next communication. It also helps you sharpen your list segmentation by saving groups of respondents, with similar interests, as a targeted contact list.
Pricing
What are the prepay discounts?
The pre-payment options provide discounts on the standard pricing. You can pre-pay for 6 months and receive a 10% discount or pre-pay for 12 months and receive a 15% discount.. By forwarding your 501 (c) (3) or equivalent non -profit documentation, you are eligible for a 30% (12 months) or 20% (6 months) discount. If you do decide to choose a pre-payment plan, you have the option of paying by check or credit card. We accept American Express®, Visa®, MasterCard® and Discover®.
Do I receive any discounts if I buy both Email Marketing and Online Survey?
Yes. If you buy both products, ListenUp!SM Online Survey is only $10 a month in addition to your standard monthly Email Marketing fee (based on the size of your email list; see the pricing chart for details). It does not matter which product you purchased first: Online Survey will be $10 a month for you going forward after you add the second product.
I was charged this month for Online Survey for more than my standard monthly fee. How come?
You exceeded Online Survey's limit of 5,000 responses per month. This total includes responses from all of your open surveys in a month. Online poll responses are unlimited and free. Each response in excess of 5,000 in a one-month billing period is charged 5 cents.
Please note that this overage fee is a very rare occurrence; 90 percent of Online Survey users never exceed the monthly 5,000-response limit.
How can I sign up for a paying account and bypass the 60 day free trial with the 100 survey response limit?
In order to create a paying account, you will first need to sign up for a trial, and then enter your credit card information by clicking on "My Account". If you are already in trial or are paying for one product, you will need to log into your Constant Contact and then click the "Buy Now" link under the Email Marketing or Survey tab.
Do I have to sign a contract?
You are under no obligation when signing up for our free trial other than consenting to the license agreement.
Do I have to give a credit card to take advantage of the free trial?
No credit card is required when signing up for the free trial.
If I don't collect any survey responses in any given month, do I still have to pay the monthly fee?
Yes. You will be charged your standard monthly fee ($15, or $10 if you also have SpeakUp!SM Email Marketing; see the pricing chart for details). That's because even if you don't send a survey to your list, you still have the ability to
- Create, preview and test new surveys
- View, filter and export survey results
- Manage your contacts
- Allow new sign-ups and maintain opt-outs
Isn't this more expensive than downloading software?
There are many benefits to having a web-hosted service, including:
